Moeen Ali: News

For the followers of English cricket in the early 2000s, Moeen Ali was destined for greatness. A child prodigy who eclipsed his contemporaries at the tender age of 15, Moeen’s game had elegance and panache. However, the question of whether it panned out the way it was supposed to or not is a tricky one to answer in his case. Moeen first made headlines when he led the England U-19 team to the World Cup semis in 2006. He had made his First-Class debut for Warwickshire a year before that. Moeen, however, had to wait for his international debut. Following a great season with both bat and ball for Worcestershire in the 2013 season, he made his ODI debut against West Indies in 2014. His Test debut came against England in the same year. Although more than handy with the bat, it was his off-breaks that earned Moeen a place in the Test side. His batting was mostly underutilized in Tests as he batted in every position from 1 to 9. He called it quits from Tests in 2021 to concentrate on the shorter formats of the game.
