Clubhouse: News
Clubhouse is an audio-based social networking platform for Android and iOS devices. The platform is the brainchild of Paul Davison and Rohan Seth. It was originally an iOS-exclusive app that could be joined only if you had been invited by an existing user, just like a real-life yacht club. Since its inception, Clubhouse has broadened its reach and launched an app for Android devices as well. The app has also ditched the invite-only exclusivity. According to the founders, the invite-only restriction was in place to keep the platform from bowing under immense demand. Earlier in 2021, reports claimed that Clubhouse had suffered a data breach. However, the application denied such reports. Interestingly, countries including Oman, Jordan, and China have either blocked access to the app or completely banned its use. Clubhouse’s popularity also pushed Big Tech companies to mimic its format. Platforms including Facebook’s Live Audio Rooms, Twitter’s Spaces, and Discord’s Stage Channels essentially replicated the idea but customized it for their respective platforms.
