Ross Taylor: News
Rarely does Ross Taylor’s name come up when there is a discussion about the best players in the world. If one were to look for a synonym of underrated in international cricket, that would be Ross Taylor. From the mid-2000s when New Zealand lost many senior players to the time when they became one of the best teams in the world, Taylor has been a consistent presence. Taylor made his first-class debut for the Central Districts in the 2002-2003 season. His international debut came in an ODI against the West Indies. He made the world know about his presence with a hundred in his third ODI. He made his Test debut against South Africa in 2007. In 2010, he was handed the captaincy. His tenure as captain was not without controversies as his volatile relationship with then-coach Mike Hesson came under public scrutiny. He was asked to step down from captaincy in 2012. However, that did not hamper Ross Taylor the batsman. His 290 against Australia in Perth is the highest score by Kiwi batsman in an away Test. In 2020, he became the first player to play 100 international matches in all three formats.
