Amar Kaushik is an Indian film director and actor best known for directing hit films like 'Stree' (2018) and ‘Bala’ (2019). He began his career in 2008 as an assistant director in Raj Kumar Gupta’s ‘Aamir’ where he also appeared in a small role. Following this he assisted Gupta in two other films, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ (2011) and ‘Ghanchakkar’ (2013). He has also worked as an assistant director with Onir in ‘Sorry Bhai!’ (2008), ‘I Am’ (2010), and ‘Shab’ (2017). He was also the assistant director in ‘Go Goa Gone’ (2013), ‘Fukrey’ (2013), and ‘Beyond the Clouds’ (2017). In 2015, he produced two short films ‘Dry Dreams’ and ‘Fuddu Boys.’ In 2017, he made his directorial debut with the short film ‘Aaba,’ which was set in Arunachal Pradesh. The film was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival. It won the Special Jury Prize at the 2017 Berlin International Film Festival and Best Short Film at the New York Indian Film Festival. In 2018, Kaushik directed ‘Stree’ which was a commercial success. The same year he also directed the web series ‘Table No. 5’ on ZEE5. His next film ‘Bhediya’ is slated to release in 2022. He has been conferred with the Best Director award and Best Debutant Director award at the 2019 Filmfare Awards.
