Sukhbir Singh Badal is a senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP), and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab. He is the son of former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and is married to SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. He entered electoral politics in the 1990s, winning from the Faridkot constituency in the 1996 Lok Sabha elections. He was re-elected from Faridkot in the 1998 General Elections and served as the Union Minister of State (MoS) for Industry (1998-99) in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Between 2004 and 2009, Badal served his third term as a Lok Sabha MP and took over as the president of SAD in 2008. In 2009, he became the Deputy CM of Punjab in the SAD-BJP government. He won a by-election from the Jalalabad constituency and was re-elected in the 2012 and 2017 Assembly elections. During the Akali government from 2012 to 2017, he served as the Minister for Home, Housing, Sports & Youth Affairs, Governance Reforms, Excise and Taxation, Investment Promotion, and Civil Aviation. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Badal got elected from Firozepur, becoming a four-term MP.
