Google Doodle: News
According to the Google search engine, Doodles are “fun, surprising, and sometimes spontaneous” changes made to the Google logo displayed on the Google Search homepage. The Google Doodle artworks usually celebrate holidays, festivals, anniversaries, the lives of famous artists, scientists, and pioneers in various fields. Google claims that the idea of Doodles came in 1998, even before the company was incorporated when the company’s founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin toyed with the corporate logo to mark their attendance at the Burning Man festival in Nevada and let Google employees know the founders were out of office. In the year 2000, the founders asked then-intern and now-webmaster Dennis Hwang to make a Doodle for Bastille Day. The creation was a hit with Google users and Hwang became the chief doodler. Now the Doodles are sourced from regular competitions conducted by Google or produced in-house by a team of creative professionals. Over 4,000 Doodles have been created so far and Google has archived them too. The events that are commemorated with Doodles are chosen so they reflect Google’s “personality and love for innovation”. Commoners can submit Doodle proposals to doodleproposals@google.com
