Eoin Morgan: News

An unorthodox southpaw who became synonymous with audacious sweeps and reverse sweeps in his early years, English cricketer Eoin Morgan has been at the center of the cricketing revolution that England underwent after the 2015 World Cup. Born in Dublin, Ireland, it is poetic that an Irishman was the first captain to get England to their holy grail—the 50-over World Cup. Morgan was 16 years old when he made his ODI debut and became the only person to get out at 99 runs on debut. His dream of playing for England became a reality when he was included in England's provisional squad for the 2009 ICC World T20. However, Morgan's big break came in the 2009 Champions Trophy. His limited-overs form translated into him being picked in the Test team, but that didn't last long as he was dropped from the Test team in 2012. Morgan continued to make impressive performances with the English team in limited-overs. He was appointed the ODI captain in 2014, and after England's humiliation in the 2015 World Cup, he began advocating for a fearless approach. This change resulted in him lifting the famous World Cup trophy at Lord's in 2019.
