Randeep Surjewala: News
Randeep Singh Surjewala is a senior politician from the Indian National Congress (INC), currently serving as the party’s General Secretary and a member of the Congress Working Committee (CWC). He is also a national spokesperson for the party. Like his father, Shamsher Singh Surjewala, Randeep Surjewala has been associated with the Congress since his early years and has risen to be a recognized leader. Surjewala pursued his Bachelor of Law degree from Punjab University and started practicing law at 21 in 1988. Later, in 1991, he commenced practice in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Over the years, he has held several posts within the Congress, such as the Haryana Pradesh Youth Congress General Secretary, National President of the Indian Youth Congress, Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), and President of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), among others. Surjewala won a notable victory in the 2005 Haryana Assembly elections against the then CM Om Prakash Chautala and has held various portfolios as a Cabinet minister in the Congress-led Haryana governments. He also won the 2009 and 2014 State Assembly elections from the Kaithal constituency of Haryana but lost from there to BJP’s Leela Ram in 2019.
