David Fincher: News
There are no directors in Hollywood like David Fincher who have had the audience at the edge of their seats. He created a unique blend of filmmaking that involved extensive use of shadow and low-light, combination of colors that created symbolism, and sinister themes that made the audience gasp. Born on August 28, 1962, in Denver, Colorado, Fincher’s interest in films developed at a very young age. At the age of eight, he used his 8mm camera to make films after being inspired by a documentary on the making of ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.’ He continued his interest in filmmaking during his high school days as well. Fincher began his journey in the industry as a production head in director John Korty’s studio. As he gained more experience, he joined George Lucas’s ‘Industrial Light & Magic’ as an assistant cameraman. His experience behind the camera is often credited for his perfectionist approach to filmmaking. He left ILM in 1984 to make commercials and music videos. He worked on commercials for Nike, Coca-Cola, etc., and made music videos for international sensations such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, George Michael, etc. In 1992, he made his directorial debut with the film ‘Alien 3.’ He then went on to direct cult classics such as ‘Se7en’ (1995) and ‘Fight Club’ (1999). Fincher has been nominated for the Academy Awards three times (2009, 2011 and 2021). He has also received three Primetime Emmy Awards, one Golden Globe, and two Grammys.
