Member of the famous Anand family of Bollywood and the fame of television series 'Khandan', Shekhar Kapur is an actor, director, and film producer in the Hindi cinema. At the behest of his parents, he pursued a career in accountancy and moved to the United Kingdom for several years. In 1975, he moved back to India and debuted in Bollywood with the movie 'Jaan Hazir Hai. After acting in a few Hindi films, Kapur switched his profession and started directing movies. He made his directorial debut with 'Masoom' in 1983. His most famous and remembered work is 'Mr. India' (1987) and 'Bandit Queen' (1994). 'Bandit Queen' got immense international recognition, after which he directed the Hollywood movie 'Elizabeth' (1998), which won a BAFTA for Outstanding British Film. Later, he also appeared as the judge of the talent-based reality show 'India's Got Talent' and was also selected on the jury of the Cannes Film Festival in 2010. In 2020, Kapur was made the president of the Film and Television Institute of India. He is also a recipient of the Padma Shri award.
