Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury: News

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury is an Indian politician, a member of Parliament, and a leader of the Indian National Congress. He has been a five-time MP from Berhampore in the Murshidabad district. He also serves as the President of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee as of 2021. Chowdhury was born on April 2, 1956, in West Bengal. He completed his education at Berhampore’s IC Institute. Despite being involved in a number of criminal cases, Chowdhury is well known for bringing about development and ensuring women’s safety in Berhampore city. Chowdhury joined the Congress party during the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi and contested from the Nabagram assembly constituency in 1991. However, he lost by a small margin of votes against the CPI-M party. In 1996, he won by a margin of 20,329 votes. He entered the Lok Sabha from the Berhampore constituency in 1999 and won the Indian general election from Berhampore by a huge margin of votes. Under the leadership of Chowdhury, Congress won 23 Zilla Parishad seats, 13 panchayat samities, and 104 village councils in Murshidabad district in 2003.
