Smriti Irani is the current Union Cabinet Minister for Textiles and Women and Child Development. She is also a MP representing Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, which was a Congress stronghold once. In 2019, she defeated former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi by a huge margin of 55,120 votes, which was called a surprising feat. In the earlier BJP government, formed in 2014, Smriti was the HRD minister, which was mired with controversies. She was then given the textile ministry, after which she was made the Information and Broadcasting minister. She is also an actress, who shot to fame in the role of Tulsi Mihir Virani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, her third TV series that spanned for 8 long years, from 2000.
