DK Shivakumar is an Indian politician who is serving as the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, as of 2021. He is also the MLA from the Kanakapura constituency, as of 2021. Shivakumar has served as the Minister of Energy in the Government of Karnataka under the Siddaramaiah government. He was also the State Minister of irrigation in the cabinet of HD Kumaraswamy. He is one of the richest politicians in India and is a seven-time MLA. Shivakumar played an important role in the formation of the coalition government of the Janata Dal and Indian National Congress in Karnataka following the 2018 Legislative Assembly elections. In 2017, he also helped his party leadership to move 42 Gujarat Congress MLAs into his Bengaluru resort just before his election to Rajya Sabha. He did this to prevent them from moving to another political party which subsequently helped Ahmed Patel to win the election. In 2017, the Income Tax Department conducted a raid in Shivakumar’s Bengaluru office and residence in connection with tax irregularities. However, he termed the charges as baseless and blamed the BJP government for it.
