The 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka, Basavaraj Bommai, born on January 28, 1960, is also an engineer and Karnataka’s Member of Legislative Assembly for Shiggaon since 2008. The Indian politician, who began his political journey with Janata Dal in 1998 that gradually dissolved in 1999, is associated with Bharatiya Janata Party. Bommai, a mechanical engineering graduate, has also served as the Ministerial in charge of Haveri and Udupi districts of Karnataka as well as the Minister of Law and Justice and Parliamentary Affairs under BS Yediyurappa government. As the chief minister of Karnataka, Bommai increased the pension of widows, physically challenged people, as well as senior citizens. He also proclaimed scholarships for farmers’ children. An animal lover, Bommai is known to be a calm and composed person and follows Lingayat religious beliefs. He is the son of SR Bommai, the former and 11th Chief Minister of Karnataka.
