Anil Sharma: News
Born on June 30, 1965, Anil Sharma is a BJP politician and BJP member of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Mandi constituency. Son of former Union Minister Pandit Sukh Ram, Sharma first entered the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1993 from Mandi as a member of the Indian National Congress. Between 1993 and 1996, he was inducted as the Minister of State for Youth Services, and Sports and Himachal Pradesh Forest Minister in the Vidarbha Singh government. He was expelled from Congress, along with his father during the 1996 telecom scam. Following this, they launched the Himachal Vikas Congress. He became a member of the Rajya Sabha for the Himachal Vikas Congress in 1998. In 2004, Sharma, along with his father, re-joined Congress and won the 2007 and 2012 Assembly elections from Mandi. In 2017, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Between 2017 and 2019, he served as the Minister of Power in the Jai Ram Thakur government. In 2019, he was expelled from the government after he refused to campaign against his son Ashray Sharma who was fielded by Congress from the Mandi constituency for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Actor Aayush Sharma, who is married to Salman Khan’s sister Arpita Khan, is his other son.
