Govinda is an Indian actor, dancer, comedian, and former politician, who is well-known for his work in the Hindi film industry. He is popularly known for his comedy-related roles, dancing skills, and slapstick performances. Govinda has appeared in more than 165 Hindi films in his acting career. He is the recipient of several accolades including a Filmfare Award for Best Comedian and two Filmfare Special Awards. He has also received nominations for 12 Filmfare Awards. In 1999, a BBC News Online poll voted him as the tenth greatest star of screen or stage in the last thousand years. He started his acting career by appearing as a dancing and action hero in the 1980s. In 1986, Govinda made his Bollywood debut with ‘Ilzaam.’ Following this, he went on to deliver several hit films like ‘Hatya,’ ‘Jeete Hain Shaan Se,’ ‘Do Qaidi,’ ‘Love 86,’ and ‘Hum.’ In 1989, he worked with director David Dhawan in ‘Taaqatwar’ following which the duo went on to deliver successful comedy hits. His comedy debut came with the 1992 romantic comedy film ‘Shola Aur Shabnam.’ Govinda was also a member of the Parliament from 2004-2009. He appears as a judge on the Bengali dance reality show ‘Dance Bangla Dance,’ as of 2021.
