Bhumi Pednekar is an Indian actress born on July 18, 1989, in Mumbai. She is widely recognized for her works in Bollywood. Before foraying into the world of acting, she worked as an assistant casting director at Yash Raj Films for six years. She made her acting debut with Sharat Katariya's romantic comedy ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ (2015), in which she played an overweight bride that helped her bag the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She then rose to popularity by portraying headstrong, small-town women in comedy-dramas like ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ (2107), ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ (2017), ‘Sonchiriya’ (2019), ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ (2019), and ‘Bala’(2019). Notably, her role as a septuagenarian sharpshooter, Chandro Tomar, in the 2019 film 'Saand Ki Aankh' helped her win the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress alongside Taapsee Pannu. In 2018, Pednekar was also featured by ‘Forbes India’ in its ‘30 Under 30’ list. Apart from being an actor, she is an environmental activist who launched the Climate Warrior campaign to raise awareness on global warming in 2019.
